For the month of May 2018, Copa Holdings' system-wide passenger traffic (RPMs) increased 16.1% year over year, while capacity (ASMs) increased 13.4%. As a result, system load factor for the month was 84.4%, 2.0 percentage points higher than May 2017.
The strike led to 169 operational flight cancellations out of a total of 2,637 flights between May 24 and May 27 due to jet fuel shortages at several airports supplied by fuel trucks. The Company also proactively reduced flight schedules by an additional 523 flights from May 28 to June 3 in response to higher than average customer cancelation and no-show rates.
During February 2018 Volaris increased total capacity, as measured in Available Seat Miles (ASMs), by 11.2% year over year. Total demand, as measured in Revenue Passenger Miles (RPMs), in February 2018 increased 14.2% year over year, reaching 1.2 billion.
Consolidated passenger traffic (RPKs) increased 14.0% compared to May 2017 on a capacity increase (ASKs) of 13.5%. As a result, load factor was 80.1%, 0.3 percentage points higher than in the same period last year.
