Republic Airline Signs Partnership with Southern Illinois University Carbondale for Pilot Development Program

Agreements offer students guaranteed interviews, conditional offers of employment before graduation

Republic Airline announced last week that it has signed a partnership agreement with Southern Illinois University Carbondale for pilot development and career progression. With the addition of this aviation program, Republic now works with 23 schools across the United States to help their students fast-track their careers as commercial airline pilots.

The partnerships enable flight students at collegiate aviation programs to interview with the airline before graduation. If the students meet Republic’s qualifications, they could receive a conditional offer of employment and be eligible to receive a signing bonus of as much as $10,000 or receive their final 100 hours of flight time to meet ATP minimum requirements. Republic pilots train to fly the Embraer E170 and E175 aircraft, the most advanced commercial aircraft in our industry. Since the creation of its first partnership program in 2015, Republic has had more than 300 pilot cadets enter the program, dozens of which have already transitioned into First Officers with the airline.

“As the need for commercial pilots continues to increase, SIU is working hard to provide the industry with qualified students to meet these demands,” SIU Carbondale Chancellor Carlo Montemagno said. “This agreement will be another significant component in our nationally recognized aviation program’s success. Our students are educated not only as great pilots, but also to be the next generation of aviation leaders.”

SIU-Carbondale joins other top aviation flight schools across the country in partnership with Republic, including Purdue University, Vincennes University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Daytona Beach and the University of North Dakota, among others.
