Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) launches its revamped cruisExcellence 2.0 regional training this month, kicking off an action-packed one-day Saturday program that will be available in 11 cities through October. The newly-designed cruisExcellence 2.0 features a fast paced one-day format offering travel agents new content in one-hour seminars and includes the popular and exclusive to CLIA virtual ship inspections, plus new training segments presented by featured suppliers and vendors in the various cities. An Alaska Expert destination specialist course will be the first specialty training program and will be available during cruisExcellence 2.0 in Los Angeles on Feb. 22, 2014 and in Houston, Texas on March 8, 2014.
“The new cruisExcellence 2.0 format builds on what is already regarded as the best and most comprehensive travel agent training and certification curriculum in the industry. It demonstrates CLIA’s strong commitment to listen to and act on agent feedback to create new programming in line with their needs,” says Margaret Murphy, CLIA Senior Vice President of Strategic Marketing. “Our top priority is to ensure that everything we do is relevant to the agent of today and the future to expand their knowledge and increase their cruise sales.”
In Los Angeles, CLIA member travel agents can attend two live one-hour CLIA Training Seminars featuring new content focused on selling culinary cruising, niche markets and in Houston agents can gain insider knowledge on the new “must have” resources and apps, and how to grow their business through first time cruisers. There will be two virtual ship inspections offered in each city. The training elements, according to Murphy, are part of CLIA’s gold standard of training that has successfully been delivered to thousands of agents for the last 40 years.
The 90-minute Alaska Expert session, which will be conducted by Visit Anchorage, includes product information from day cruises to flightseeing, lodging choices including rustic Alaska lodges and five-star hotel accommodations, and much more. One agent’s name will be drawn in each city during the training to receive a free Alaska Fall familiarization visit including air to take place in August 2014.
“We want agents to be awe-inspired by Anchorage with this comprehensive training program,” says Jara Haas, Tourism Sales Manager of Visit Anchorage. “Participants will get acquainted with Alaska’s largest city and the surrounding area. They will discover insider tips and tools to create amazing Alaska packages for their clients.”
The first two cruisExcellence 2.0 programs will take place in San Pedro, CA on Feb. 22, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Harbor Hotel and on March 8, 2014 in Houston at the Sheraton North Houston Hotel. Other cities in which cruisExcellence will be available include Washington, D.C/Arlington, VA; Seattle; Detroit; Las Vegas; Atlanta; Toronto; Orlando; Denver; and New York City/East Rutherford, NJ.
