Mantis has added the RMS St Helena to their growing Boutique Cruises portfolio, one of only two ocean-going vessels in the world to still carry the title of Royal Mail Ship.
In addition to being a working ship, RMS St Helena is also a passenger vessel that transports guests with style and service to one of the most remote, inhabited islands in the world. Originally built in 1989, the ship was specifically designed to supply the island of St Helena, a British OverseasTerritory deep in the tropical South Atlantic.
Having signed a contract with the government of St Helena earlier in the year to develop a 5 star hotel on the island, Mantis will not only assist with the marketing of RMS St Helena, but also bring its hospitality, education and conservation experience.
As one of the most remote places in the world, more than 1,200 miles from the nearest major landmass, and with its rich flora and fauna, the island certainly fits with the Mantis mantra of unearthing the exceptional. Were extremely excited to be marketing this iconic Royal Mail Ship, one of only two left in the world, as part of our growing portfolio of boutique cruises worldwide, commented Adrian Gardiner, chairman of Mantis. This is the first of our exciting steps towards ultimately developing our very own boutique hotel on St Helena island.
Mantis Boutique Cruises identifies privately owned, luxurious vessels such as river safari Zambezi Queen and expedition ice breaker yacht, Hanse Explorer, that are rich in character and each with their own interesting story to tell. No ship in the portfolio is the same, much like the collection of hotels that currently make up the award winning Mantis Collection. Cruising is not only about reaching a destination; it is about the enrichment that is gained through taking the journey.
Mantis itself is a family run, private collection of award winning, privately owned, five star properties located around the world. Divided into five distinct groups, its specialist areas include Boutique Hotels, Game Reserves, Eco Lodges, Ski Lodges and Chalets, and Boutique Cruises. All of the properties and vessels represent the finest examples of their kind and celebrate the culture, gastronomy, architecture and nature of the locations in which they are found, to offer guests a truly authentic experience.
