Frontier Airlines Launches New Service from Wichita to Denver and the West |
|
Lowering fares by 30-40 percent, Frontier makes travel to and from Wichita affordable, opens Western United States to thriving Kansas community |
Frontier Airlines (NASDAQ:FRNT) today began non-stop service between its Denver International Airport (DEN) hub and Wichita Mid-Continent Airport (ICT) in Wichita, Kan. The thrice daily service will initially be served by the 76-seat Embraer E-170. Upon Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) approval, Wichita will ultimately be served by Frontier Airlines Holdings, Inc. subsidiary Lynx Aviation, with its 74-seat Q400 aircraft. However, Lynx employees will provide customer service support in Wichita beginning with the launch of the new service today.
Wichita, which is located in south central Kansas and is the largest city in the state, is a progressive and diverse community of 360,000 people. A three-time "All-American City" award-winner, Wichita offers its residents a quality of life that is clean, safe, and growing. Forbes Magazine named Wichita as the "number one place in the Midwest to live the good life cheaply." Recently, American City Business Journals named Wichita second in their list of "10 most affordable places to live in the nation."
"Today's launch of service by Frontier marks the culmination of a tremendous amount of cooperative work, effort and focus on the part of the City, the airport and the business leaders of this great community," said Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer. "To attract a low cost carrier of the caliber of Frontier, a city has to demonstrate that there is clearly a need for the service and that there is a vibrancy and an economic desire to support a new carrier. Wichita not only demonstrated the need but we clearly communicated that there is tremendous growth and opportunity in Wichita that has yet to be tapped, and low fare service to Denver and the West can be a catalyst to unlock that potential. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Frontier."
"Wichita is clearly underserved for low fare service and the citizens of Wichita absolutely deserve the high-quality value-oriented product that Frontier can offer," said John Happ, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Planning. "Wichita is ripe for the economic growth that can be generated by a low-fare hub in Denver offering them non-stop service to Denver and one-stop service to 60 destinations throughout the United States, Canada and Central America. We look forward to returning the favor of their support and we are eager to become a true partner with the city, its businesses and its leadership."
